What Happens at an In-Home Insulation Assessment

Every job starts the same way: someone from Sebastian Spray Foam comes to the house and looks before anyone quotes anything. The assessment is free, and there is no obligation. Here is what happens, so you know what to expect and what to have ready.

Before we arrive

Clear a path to the attic hatch and to the basement or crawl space, and think about the rooms that never hold their temperature: the bonus room over the garage, the bedroom at the end of the hall, the floor that is always cold. Those are the places we want to hear about first.

What we look at

  • The attic: how much insulation is there, what condition it is in, whether the hatch, top plates and penetrations are sealed, and whether the knee walls and roof deck are insulated at all
  • The walls: whether the cavities hold any insulation, and whether they can be dense-packed from inside without opening them
  • The basement or crawl space: the rim joist, open vents, signs of moisture, and whether the floor is dirt or slab
  • Anything that needs to come out first: wet, aged or rodent-damaged insulation belongs out of the house before new material goes in

What we decide with you

The material for each space, not one material for the whole house. Open-cell foam where sound and expansion matter, such as roof decks and interior walls. Closed-cell where moisture and space are tight, such as crawl spaces and rim joists. Blown cellulose or fiberglass for an open attic floor. Batts for new framing. Many homes get more than one, each where it belongs, and sealing always comes before insulating.

What you get

A clear quote: the scope, the material and thickness for each space, and a timeline. The price depends on the area, the foam type and the thickness the space needs. We are not the cheapest insulation contractor in the area and we do not try to be. What you are paying for is work that is specified correctly, installed by our own crew of fifteen, and finished on schedule and spotless.

What happens next

If you go ahead, we schedule the install. Most residential attic or crawl space jobs are finished in a single day; larger whole-home or new-construction projects take longer, and the quote tells you which. On the day we mask and protect the house before we start, seal the envelope, and leave it cleaner than we found it.
